Alfa Laval has acquired Desmet, a company specializing in engineering technologies and process solutions for oils, fats, proteins, feed, and biofuels. The acquisition, which included the operational units and brands of RoseDowns and Stolz, was completed in 2022 for an undisclosed amount.
On October 5, 2026, Alfa Laval announced it is initiating the full integration of Desmet, which has operated as a separate entity since the acquisition. The integration aims to strengthen Alfa Laval's oils, fats, and biofuel segments. Sammy Hulpiau, President of the Food & Pharma Division, stated that bringing capabilities together will allow for more integrated solutions, accelerated innovation, and increased value, while preserving Desmet's specialist know-how and customer relationships.
Desmet's upstream extraction and processing expertise will combine with Alfa Laval's technologies in separation, heat transfer, and downstream processing. This is expected to create a broader offering in engineered solutions and support the oils, fats, and biofuel industries in transitioning to more-sustainable production. The Desmet brand will become a product and process technology brand within Alfa Laval, and Desmet will be integrated into the Business Unit Process Engineering Solutions in the Food & Pharma Division. The integration is expected to be completed by July 2027.
Desmet was founded in Belgium in 1946. Alfa Laval, founded more than 140 years ago, provides solutions in heat transfer, separation, and fluid handling.
