Leica Biosystems has completed its acquisition of privately held StatLab Medical Products. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Leica Biosystems stated the acquisition is intended to bolster its comprehensive end-to-end lab portfolio across the pathology workflow, encompassing specimen collection and preparation through advanced staining, digital imaging, and AI-enabled diagnosis. This expanded offering aims to help pathology laboratories optimize histology workflows, reduce variation, and improve speed, consistency, and confidence from sample to answer. The company also noted that the move supports more efficient diagnostic workflows as laboratories face rising case volumes, increasing complexity, and ongoing staffing pressures.
Gustavo Perez-Fernandez, Group Executive for Danaher’s Diagnostics Business and President of Leica Biosystems, said the acquisition unites StatLab’s portfolio and customer relationships with Leica Biosystems’ leadership in digital and computational pathology and AI-enabled diagnostics. He added that together, the companies are better positioned to help laboratories achieve the consistency, standardization, and quality needed to advance precision oncology at scale. The acquisition also supports the continued advancement of precision cancer therapies through Leica Biosystems’ work with biopharma partners, further strengthened by Danaher’s connected ecosystem of innovation.
