AllShield has raised $5.3M to scale BarrierSheet, its fire barrier for commercial rooftops going solar. Move Energy is the investor.
The pitch rests on a problem that sits underneath the panels rather than in them. Many commercial roofs carry combustible insulation or ageing waterproofing, so adding PV raises a second question beyond preventing electrical ignition: if ignition happens anyway, does the roof assembly contain it or feed it? BarrierSheet is a mineral, A1 non-combustible coverboard installed beneath a new waterproofing membrane at roughly 3 kg/m², developed for flat roofs where weight and practical refurbishment matter. It's FM Approved under FM 4470 and FM 4478 in an approved RoofNav assembly, and fire testing has shown it can help block direct flame penetration into deeper roof layers.
